Model BAM-1020 |
|
| The Met One BAM-1020 is an EPA certified equivalency method for the measurement of particulate matter (PM). The instrument automatically reports readings of PM2.5, PM10 or TSP over user-defined intervals. The applied beta attenuation technique offers outstanding correlation to the Federal Reference Method, and provides long periods of unattended operation. The BAM-1020 measures the amount of particulate deposited on a filter
tape during a fixed sampling interval. The mass is determined by measuring the extent of
beta attenuation through the filter on which the particles have been deposited. The
quantity of mass collected and the volume of air sampled during the measurement cycle are
used to determine the PM concentration, expressed as ug/m3 or mg/m3. Reliable, accurate measurements by the BAM-1020 are assured with an
automatic zero and span calibration conducted during each measurement cycle. The zero
value is obtained by measuring the amount of beta attenuation through the same portion of
filter tape before and after every sampling interval. The span is determined when a
reference membrane is automatically inserted within the measurement path. The BAM-1020 provides users with a host of data and retrieval options.
Measured values, averaged results, instrument status and calibration results are available
from discrete analog and digital outputs, or via serial communication ports. The
instrument is capable of integration with modems, printers, and meteorological sensors. Service and operating costs are maintained to minimum. The maintenance
interval, when performing 1-hour measurements of PM10 or PM2.5, is approximately 60 days.
Moreover, special tools and external calibration devices are not required. Numerous evaluations, conducted by independent organizations, state
authorities and the U.S. EPA, have proclaimed reliable performance and outstanding
correlation between the BAM-1020 and the Federal Reference Method (FRM). Semi-volatile organic and inorganic compounds may represent a considerable fraction of ambient particulate matter. Numerous reports have indicated a significant portion of this component being lost during PM measurement with alternative on-line monitors. The design of the BAM-1020 helps preserve the integrity of these compounds, thus providing consistent results and enhanced correlation to the reference method. Moreover, the BAM-1020 is insensitive to vibration, sudden shocks and
fluctuations in ambient temperature. |
